About the Conference Organizers:

The Hamilton Regional Lactation Committee is an independent association of volunteers and professionals whose goal is to help increase the number of mothers choosing to breastfeed their children according to the World Health Organization’s breastfeeding recommendations.

The HRLC seeks to foster strategic partnerships and networks that promote a coordinated, consistent approach to breastfeeding issues in an effort to promote, protect and support breastfeeding in our community. 


Conference Topic:

"How Healthcare Practices Impact Breastfeeding Outcomes"


Conference Objectives:

  • Develop awareness of language and institutional practices that impact maternal breastfeeding behaviours.
  • Explore current research that supports the development of evidence-based practice.
  • Mobilize the passion and enthusiasm of participants toward responsible action, within an ethical framework.
  • Provide opportunities for participants and speakers to network and share.

Keynote Speakers:

Our guest speakers will be Dr. Joy Noel-Weiss, RN, IBCLC, PhD from the University of Ottawa and Diane Wiessinger, MS, IBCLC from Ithica, New York.

Dr. Joy Noel-Weiss will be talking about the ins and outs of maternal fluids and newborn weight loss and about how IBCLCs manage ethical dilemmas.. (more information..)

Diane Wiessinger will be speaking about  fashion through the ages, health claims and their possible problems, lymph drainage, breast surgery, and breast cancer.  She will also talk about how our word choices often promote formula-feeding.  (more information..)
